The device netPI is made for applications at the 'edge' of converging IT-OT networks. It is based on the original Raspberry Pi 3 schematics extended by Hilscher's multi-protocol network SoC netX. The design is a cooperation between the Raspberry manufacturer Farnell and Hilscher. As a gateway it integrates in today's OT shopfloor networks such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT and others as I/O slave and enables bidirectional data exchange with Cloud, Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 solutions in modern enterprise IT structures. netPI's ecosystem consists of a secured Linux and the virtualization environment Docker users can add and run their own or third party software safely in isolated containers. Thanks to the compatibility Docker, applications can be developed on a standard RPi3 first, containerized afterwards and deployed on netPI for using them under industrial conditions.
