Hilscher is back to Hannover! This year we showed Hard- and Software solutions with the focus on Industrie 4.0. By being in the same spot with our technology partners in the area dedicated to the “Digital Factory”, we encouraged System Integrators and Machine Builders to join our “Digital Transformation Ecosystem” and therefore to leverage from our experience in the shop floor communication.
For all the netPI enthusiasts we presented a version of it without integrated Real-Time Ethernet capabilities for when only the TCP/IP channel is needed for your projects. Additionally, we showed a real example of how to use the add-on modules NPIX to modify all netPI products with additional I/O systems.
As the name implies, netIOT Edge provides the Edge Connectivity needed for providing the information from the shop floor to the world of IT in a profitable way. The software architecture of our netIOT Edge Gateway family has grown organically over the time to be up to date with the current technological state of the art. At Hannover Messe 2018, we presented it as a whole.
With the Edge Server being the main component of our Software Architecture, we sought to keep the engineering efforts for integrating a netIOT Edge Gateway in a running field network to go near-zero. By combining it with the Passive Fieldbus Integration, the Gateways can gather information in the field network without having to engineer the PLC. This enables Data Scientists to process data in any imaginable way. Furthermore, by integrating the Docker technology in all our Gateways, you will be able to implement your own apps in a safe environment on the device.
With a live demonstration of the edge gateway’s integrated OT diagnostic function, Hilscher also showed how the solution detects devices that have been physically pulled from the Fieldbus network. After the system detects the mismatch, it triggers an alert that makes it possible to predict malfunctions and downtimes, making maintenance work much easier to plan.
How a post-processing of the data works was shown by our partner and co-exhibitor X-Integrate. By using the provided data for dedicated apps, Predictive Maintenance scenarios become an easy task to solve.
In order to depict a real digital twin, Hilscher and SAP showed an automated device onboarding in the SAP Asset Management. The intelligence on the Edge was contributed by the netIOT Edge Gateway On-Premise in combination with the Hilscher AIN Connector.
Via the netIOT Edge Technology, the SAP Asset Intelligence Network was provided with information about the devices in the network, the actual network topology and changes to it.
One of the scenarios shown included the real-time registration of a pulled device. The current state of the network was checked against the planned topology. If there was a mismatch, an alert was seen in the cloud-based SAP Asset Intelligence Network.
Hilscher as an early adopter of the TSN technology committed to it by presenting a joint project with different partners contemporaneously at our and the OPC UA Foundation’s booth. The aim was to show that it is already possible to synchronize various devices in the field by relying on the future-proof technology OPC UA TSN.
With netIOT Interface Portfolio, we presented our core technology that shows our competence as the expert for industrial communication. Whether with the netX SoC technology or with our ready-to-solder embedded modules, we enable our users to transport the information vertically from the field to the value-added services in the edge or cloud.
For Industrial IoT projects, information from the field is a necessity. Typically, a field device sends standard I/O data through Profinet or other field networks, but for IoT, netX-enabled devices send the relevant information via OPC UA or MQTT to edge devices or cloud services bypassing the PLC. That ensures that the relevant data arrives there unaffected, where it is needed.
The best part: many already installed netX designs can be upgraded to OPC UA capabilities for the IoT communication via a firmware update. All that realized by the power of netX based technology.
